I'm in my third week of using the meal plans on my family of one hungry husband and two children. I'm saving about $30 - $40 off my weekly shopping and because we use all the vegies we buy, I'm not throwing out old food from my fridge each week either - winning!

The Cajun steaks with the mango salsa (on the home page this week)were awesome. We cooked on the BBQ after a dip at the beach, it was a great evening. I'm downloading the free meal plan to try it out.

Check this week's star recipe. I love it because one of my kids thinks she doesn't like feta - but she loves this dish and now has decided she also likes spinach and feta triangles. It takes me about 10 minutes to prepare the pumpkin the night before, I lay it in the quiche dish and put in the fridge ready for the next evening. Then next evening, another 10 minutes and it's in the oven, I prepare a garden salad, pour a glass of wine and sit on the back deck while my gourmet frittata cooks. And - if you prefer, add some chopped bacon to your mixture.

Happy Australia Day! Summer's in full swing and after long hours in the great outdoors, a quick, healthy and satisfying meal is ideal. Try out the Honey Ginger Chicken recipe on the home page this week. You can BBQ or grill the chicken and it's a taste sensation which all members of the family will enjoy.

FREE Flu Buster Winter Soup recipe I've had two kids sick with colds / flu bugs this week. I always cook up a double batch of a real family favourite - a colourful Winter Soup for the sickies. I call it the flu-buster (it's got vegies and garlic in it, it tastes so delicious the kids are begging for more). I also cut up fresh pineapple and orange fruit salad, and if those two recipes are all they eat for a day or two, they are giving the cold a powerful kick! Please email us at: mealsmadeeasy@bigpond.com if you'd like the Winter Soup recipe for free!

The weather's cold in NSW and tonight's mini lamb roast went down well. We roasted the meat for 1 hour together with chunks of sweet potato and baby beets, and then placed the roasts on mixed salad leaves and topped with a yoghurt mustard sauce. Yum.

Last week the Sydney Morning Herald reported that the World Cancer Research Fund is now recommending that adults eat less than 500gm of red (lamb, pork and beef) per week and avoid ham and salami altogether. "There is convincing evidence that both red and processed meat increase bowel cancer risk" said the report, (SMH, 25.5.11). Aussie Meal Plans include 1-2 red meat meals per week, keeping you under the recommended guidelines - and very rarely do we include smoked meats, as they have been previously identified as a risk for bowel cancer. So enjoy your meal plans!
